Welcome to the Billy Goat Hill Community Garden

The community garden is located at 2004 Payne St, Louisville, KY in the Clifton neighborhood on 1 acre of land maintained under a legal agreement with Mercy Sacred Heart Village. 

The purpose of the organization is to build community understanding and support through operating community vegetable and flower gardens or other environmental projects using sustainable practices to improve the environment.

Activities will include but not be limited to education and awareness programs, maintaining a variety of garden types, bee hives, a bird sanctuary, water conservation systems, walking paths, recycling, composting, and partnering or forming alliances with other groups to participate in sustainable projects and to improve the quality of life in the area.

Other gardening, environmental, water conservation and sustainable opportunities shall be explored and undertaken to expand the organization’s purposes within Jefferson County, KY.

The Benefits of Growing Mushrooms
April 12 and 26 and May 3 and 16, 2015
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Clifton Center [2117 Payne Street, Louisville].
Each class will focus on a special aspect of growing your own mushrooms.
Most of us ignore or avoid MUSHROOMS never knowing their health benefits and value to the environment.
Eric Osborne, instructor and owner of Magnificent Mushrooms, has a Masters in Education and is Indiana’s first State recognized wild mushroom expert.  He will help us understand the benefits of growing and eating mushrooms and how to grow gourmet in our own backyards.  We will also visit and learn from the new Billy Goat Hill Garden mushroom project.

Thanks to a Louisville Metro Healthy Hometown Grant, we are offering scholarships to the first 15 to sign up for each class.
